Last revised: August 17, 2026. Effective: August 17, 2026.
The short version
- Audio streams from the mobile app to Soniox during an explicit live session.
- Finalized text is processed through Google Gemini for translation.
- The Vozu backend does not store audio, transcript text, translations, or text-to-speech text.
- If you keep conversation history, it is encrypted in the app's local database.
- Anonymous identifiers and usage records are used for authentication, the 30-minute allowance, abuse prevention, subscriptions, reliability, and support.
Data flow
| Data | Where it goes | Why | Vozu retention |
|---|---|---|---|
| Microphone audio | Device → Soniox over an encrypted live connection | Speech transcription | Not stored by the Vozu backend |
| Interim and final speech | Device memory; finalized text passes through the selected Gemini transport | Display and translation | Session memory plus optional encrypted local history |
| Translation result | Gemini → device through a streaming transport | Display and optional spoken playback | Optional encrypted local history; not stored by the backend |
| Anonymous installation and quota records | Vozu backend database | Authentication, abuse prevention, and authoritative usage | While active plus a target of 24 months of inactivity |
| Purchase state | Apple or Google, RevenueCat, and Vozu entitlement records | Access and restore | Target 24 months for Vozu's entitlement projection; platform policies also apply |
| Diagnostics and analytics | Selected crash and analytics processors | Reliability and product outcomes | Target 90 days for crashes and 25 months for analytics |
| Optional feedback | Vozu backend → our operations relay → private Vozu support channel on Discord | Responding to feedback | Target 12 months; feedback is not added to analytics |
Conversation processors
Soniox
Vozu uses Soniox for real-time speech transcription. The app receives a temporary, bounded session key and sends microphone audio directly to the configured Soniox endpoint. Vozu does not put transcript text or personal contact details into the provider reference identifier. See Soniox's security and privacy documentation.
Google Gemini
Vozu uses a paid Gemini API transport for translation. The transport must not log prompts, responses, or stream chunks. Google may retain content for limited abuse monitoring unless Vozu's production project receives confirmed zero-data-retention treatment, so Vozu does not currently claim that every processor has zero retention. See Google's Gemini data-retention documentation.
Local history
Conversation history is stored in an encrypted local database and excluded from ordinary device backups. You can delete a conversation, clear all history, or uninstall the app. Vozu does not sync history to an account at launch.
Your choices
- Do not start a live session, or stop it at any time.
- Revoke microphone permission in system settings.
- Disable automatic spoken playback.
- Delete conversations or clear all local history.
- Use the in-app privacy reset or deletion request when available.
Website app banner preference
When a public mobile download is available, the website may store the first-party key vozu.app-upsell.dismissed-at.v1 for 30 days after you dismiss an app banner. It contains only a timestamp, is not used across websites, and can be removed through your browser's site-data controls.
